What is the difference between eCommerce migration and replatforming?

The terms are used interchangeably in practice. Migration emphasises moving data and URLs, replatforming emphasises changing the platform and the operating model around it.

Updated

Very little, in common usage. Migration tends to describe moving data, content and URLs from one system to another. Replatforming tends to describe the broader programme: the new platform, the integrations, the team workflow and the operating model.

Rehosting is genuinely different and worth separating out. Moving the same platform to new infrastructure is a hosting change. It carries none of the data mapping or redirect risk that makes a replatform hard, so do not let a vendor price one as the other.
