Save a Life is a certification training provider. Through Advanced Medical Certification (AMC), it sells online ACLS, PALS, BLS, CPR, neonatal resuscitation and bloodborne pathogens courses to healthcare professionals.
Most of these certifications are valid for two years, so recertification is built into the business. In the first eight weeks of 2026, 58% of AMC's enrolments were recertifications.
An ACLS course can be bought four ways:
- as a first certification,
- as a recertification,
- as a "for life" product that covers every future renewal,
- or as part of a bundle.
Each has its own price and product page. Behind all four sits the same course: the same modules, videos, lessons, handbook and exam.
Save a Life needed training management software where the store and the LMS share one definition of each course. For the full platform story, see how Save a Life replaced WordPress, a standalone LMS and a separate store with one platform.
The challenge
On WordPress, products and courses lived in different systems. WooCommerce held products and prices, and the LMS held courses. In parts of the old setup, the only place that showed which lessons belonged to which course was the front end of the site.
That made content changes slow. When resuscitation guidelines are updated, every version of a course has to change with them, and the content sat in more than one place.
The "for life" product added another layer. A learner who buys it can renew as often as they need, and every renewal needs its own exam attempt, completion date and certificate, while the original order stays the same.
What Save a Life needed
- One course per subject, linked to every product that sells it.
- One place to update course content when clinical guidelines change.
- Course headers that read certification, recertification or "for life" based on the product purchased.
- Product pages with their own prices, upsells and bundle discounts.
- Repeat enrolments for "for life" buyers, each tracked separately.
- Pages that show buy actions to visitors and start or resume actions to learners who own the course.
Training management on one platform
Course and product structure. Courses, lessons, exams and certificate records are modeled as custom entities in Core dna, and workflows carry the progression, scoring and certification logic. Each product, from a single ACLS certification to a two-course bundle, links to the courses it unlocks. A lesson edit reaches every product that uses the course. A price change leaves the course untouched. Because Core dna combines the LMS, eCommerce and CMS in one, products and courses live in the same system.
Guideline updates made once. AMC's courses follow the latest ILCOR resuscitation guidelines. When the guidelines change, the content team updates the course once, and the change reaches the certification, recertification, "for life" and bundle products at the same time.
Purchase-aware course pages. The course page checks the learner's orders and shows the matching heading and actions. A visitor sees the course introduction and a buy button. A learner who bought the recertification sees a recertification course and a start button.
Pricing and promotions. Bundles show their saving on the product card, upsells are set per product, and coupon, user group and country rules apply at checkout. None of these touch course content. Bundles are among AMC's most frequently bought products, led by ACLS and BLS together.

Certification and recertification
Re-enrolment for "for life" products. A "for life" order includes a Start Course action. Each time the learner starts, Core dna creates a new enrolment with its own start date, progress tracking and exam attempts, with questions mixed on each attempt. Passing the exam completes that enrolment and issues a new certificate dated to that completion. Every enrolment appears in the learner's account history.
Verifiable certificates. After passing, the learner completes a short survey and downloads a certificate showing their name, issue date and renew-by date, with a QR code for verification. A provider card is available from the same page.
Renewal built in. Because each certificate carries a renew-by date, recertification reminders go out through the CRM ahead of expiry, and the learner comes back to the same course under a recertification or "for life" product.
